How Much Luggage Can I Bring?

Most bus companies have similar luggage policies. The standard free allowance is:

  • Carry-on: 1 item allowed per passenger, usually no more than 5 kg (11 lbs).

  • Hold luggage: 1 bag in the baggage hold, generally up to 23 kg (55 lbs). Maximum dimensions may also apply (for example, 158 cm total when adding height + width + depth).

This is a general allowance and can vary by company. Always check your bus company’s specific luggage policy before you travel.

Extra luggage
In most cases, you will be charged for additional luggage at the station. Fees vary by company: some charge by weight, others a flat fee per bag. Space is limited, so extra luggage is not always guaranteed. Check directly with the operator to confirm if you can bring additional bags, and whether they can be paid for online in advance.

What’s my bus company’s policy?
You can find it by searching for your bus company here. If you don’t see it, sign in to your Busbud account, open your ticket, and click on "details" to see the terms and conditions, including a breakdown of your luggage allowance.

Travelling with oversized or special luggage
For pets, bicycles, musical instruments, sports equipment, or other oversized items, policies vary greatly. Some operators accept them with prior notice or an extra fee, while others do not allow them at all. If you don’t see a clear policy listed, please contact the bus company directly here for confirmation.

Tip: Always label your luggage with your name and contact information, and arrive early to allow time for check-in if required.
